Artist Profile
Born in Gambassi, Florence on August 1939, Manuela Michelassi shows a passion for art from the very early days; childhood memories of summer hot days spent in the countryside with her family, with whom she moves to Pisa as a teenager and where she still lives to this day.
The countryside stuck in her memories is the trigger of the artist's passion for painting because it is through it that Manuela is able to keep the love for those places still burning.
However only through a thorrough study of her work it is possible to see that the folk elements pervading each picture are an actual symbol of much deeper expression, of a hidden introspection that is the motor behind the astounding and sweeping colour array.
Every inch of that space, covered by laborious coats of colour, drafted over multiple layers of drape-like Tuscan countryside, dotted with thin bare trees in a bewildering chromatic display, that very space is constantly shifting between figurative and abstract, engaging with reality then with dreams.

Nata a Gambassi (FI) nell’ agosto 1939 Manuela Michelassi esprime una passione per l’arte fin dai giorni di calda estate di gite in campagna con la famiglia, che si trasferisce a Pisa per lavoro durante la sua infanzia e dove la pittrice risiede tutt’ora.
Il Ricordo di quei luoghi natii, scatena in lei un grande desiderio per la pittura, per mezzo della quale puo’ fissare sulla tela quei luoghi, con un amore che la pittrice tiene stretto in cuore tutt’oggi.
Ma e’ solo con una piu’ attenta osservazione dei suoi quadri, che i soggetti folcloristici toscani sembrano trasformarsi in simboli espressivi di un sentimento profondo, di una introspezione soffusa che si traduce in un travolgente avvolgersi di colori.
Ogni millimetro di quello spazio, coperto da operose mani di colore, steso su drappeggi di paesaggio toscano, si dirama su multicolori sottili alberi spogli, tra il figurativo e l’astratto, tra realta’ e sogno.
